Set limits before the first deposit

The operator's responsible gaming page describes a set of limits you can put on your own account, and the best time to set one is before the first deposit rather than after a bad night. This page explains each tool as the operator describes it, what the national register does and does not cover, and where help is.

The operator’s tools

Under Personal Limits in the account, per the responsible gaming page of 29 September 2026: a deposit limit for a day, week or month; a loss limit for the same periods, measured against the amount deposited rather than the balance, which the page illustrates with its own example; a wager limit; a cooling-off period of one day, three days, one week, one month, three months or six months, during which the account cannot be used to play but funds can be withdrawn; and self-exclusion for a set period, after which the account reactivates. Self-exclusion can also be requested by email to support.

A lowered limit takes effect straight away; a raised limit has a waiting period, which is standard and is the point of the tool.

What BetStop covers

BetStop, betstop.gov.au, is the national self-exclusion register. Registering blocks you from every licensed Australian wagering operator at once. It does not reach offshore casinos, because they are not licensed here; for RocketPlay the operator’s own self-exclusion is the tool that applies. Both can be used together.

Free help, 24/7

Gambling Help Online, 1800 858 858 or gamblinghelponline.org.au, is free, confidential and open around the clock, with chat and phone counselling for anyone in Australia. Lifeline is on 13 11 14. If a session at any casino has stopped being a choice, those numbers are the next step, and a cooling-off limit on the account is the one after that.

Two practical settings

A deposit limit equal to what you would spend on a night out, set before the first deposit. And a cooling-off period of at least a week after any session that went longer than you meant it to. Neither costs anything, and both are in the account under Personal Limits.
